So I'm not usually a huge fan of writing these things but here goes. I came across this little gem on my friends Facebook page & thought i'd share. A study done at the University of Washington tested 25 common household goods for chemicals. On average there were at least 17 unlisted chemicals in each one, including at least one that is hazardous or toxic.
Unlike food products that have to list what is in them the following don't; air fresheners including sprays, solids and oils; laundry products including detergents, fabric softeners and dryer sheets; personal care products such as soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions, deodorant and shampoos; and cleaning products including disinfectants, all-purpose sprays and dish detergent.
This is truly frightening to think about. The realization that as human beings we basically absorb everything from our environment similar to a sponge in dirty water. So that lovely scented lotion you like which smells so great, is probably really bad for you. That lavender laundry detergent you use that makes your sheets smell so nice... hello toxic fumes. Basically all these top name brands that we all love & buy are loaded with things that are slowly killing us.
Scary stuff right? So I think I'll opt for the boring "Unscented" stuff next time I go shopping.
